Why the University of Benin (UNIBEN) was shutdown
The university of Benin has been temporarily shut down for the time being. The school management claims that this act was due to “security reasons”.
A view which Uniben students dismiss. The students claim that this act of the institution was due to a “peaceful” protest they held the previous day over the hike in school fees and hostel fees.
This sad event was announce on the 24th of November, last week Thursday to be precise. The students have been ordered to leave the hostels with their light and water supply cut off and a means to achieving their departure. The new date of resumption has not been officially announced. Nevertheless rumours have it that the new date of resumption is 5th January, 2018.
This act has caused many students to leave school abruptly having critical effects on their plans, finances and academics.
The SUG Pro, in the person of Ebhiabi Good news has been the anchor of the protest and fight for the return of fees to previous price. He has been dogged in the fight and many students see him as a true leader.
